Getting started: How-to guides
Short answers for the branch points around signup, onboarding, and inviting your team. For the full first-run walkthrough, see Getting started.
How do I sign in with Google instead of a password?
Goal: Use your Google account to sign in — an optional alternative to email and password, not a requirement. Either method works.
- Go to /login.
- Click Sign in with Google (or just enter your email and password as usual).
- Choose your Google account and approve.
Result: You're signed in and taken to My Inbox. If you started from an invitation link, you go back to that invitation instead.
ℹ️ Google sign-in only links to a LittleDesk user whose email matches your Google account's verified email. If you were invited as
jane@acme.com, sign in with that same Google account. A Google account with a different email signs you in as a new user, and you see No organization yet.
How do I re-run or change my onboarding answers?
Goal: Fix something you picked (or skipped) during onboarding.
Onboarding runs once. Everything it set up is editable afterward in Settings — you don't redo the wizard:
- Categories of what customers contact you about → Routing/Classification in the sidebar.
- Response-time targets → Settings → SLAs.
- Email connection → Settings → Channels.
- Business details → Settings → Business Profile.
Result: Your changes take effect immediately; Kit uses the updated settings on new tickets.
How do I invite a teammate?
Goal: Add someone to your helpdesk.
You need to be an owner or admin to invite.
- Go to Settings → Teams & Members.
- Under Team members, click Add teammates.
- Enter the teammate's email address.
- Choose a role: Agent, Admin, or Collaborator. Agent is the default. To invite more people at once, click Add another.
- Check the cost shown below the list, then click Confirm & send.
Result: The teammate gets an invitation email. When they accept, they join with the role you chose. See Teams for what each role can do.
If every invitation went out, the dialog closes. If some didn't, the dialog lists each address as sent or didn't send. Click Re-send to try the ones that didn't. You aren't charged again for them.
⚠️ Admins and agents each take a paid seat, and confirming can charge your card. Collaborators are free. Before the form, the dialog may stop you:
- On the Free plan with no trial, it asks you to Choose a plan →.
- If your last payment failed, it asks you to Update payment.
An address that is already on the team, or already has an invitation waiting, is not invited. The reason shows under that address. If your plan's collaborator limit is reached, a collaborator invitation shows as didn't send and the dialog doesn't say why.
How do I accept an invitation?
Goal: Join a helpdesk you were invited to.
- Open the invitation link in your email. It goes to
/accept-invitation/.... - If you're signed out, pick one:
- Create account if you're new to LittleDesk. Enter Your name and a Password, accept the terms, and click Create & join. You join right away, so skip step 3.
- Sign in or Continue with Google if you already have a login. You come back to the invitation page.
- Confirm you're Signed in as the invited email, then click Accept invitation.
Result: You join the organization and land in My Inbox.
How do I fix an invitation that won't accept?
Goal: Resolve an error on the accept-invitation page.
The most common cause is being signed in as the wrong account — invitations are tied to the exact email they were sent to.
- Wrong account? On the Wrong account screen, click Sign in as someone else, then sign in with the email the invite was sent to, and accept again.
- Invitation link expired? Links last 7 days. Opening an expired link emails you a fresh one automatically. If it doesn't arrive, click Resend again.
- Invitation already used or cancelled? Ask your admin to invite you again.
Result: Accepting while signed in as the invited email completes the join.
Troubleshooting
No emails are turning into tickets after onboarding? Go to Settings → Channels and click Email.
- If you set up forwarding during onboarding, find your support address under Your addresses. Check that your email provider forwards to exactly that address. See Set up email forwarding.
- If you connected a mailbox directly, it shows a status. Active means it's connected. If it shows Error or Revoked, click Reconnect and sign in to your email account again. An IMAP mailbox has Test connection instead of Reconnect.
Didn't get an invitation email? Have the invitee check spam. You can't re-send a waiting invitation from Settings → Teams & Members, and inviting the same address again is refused while that invitation is still waiting. If you typed the address wrong, invite the correct address. Once the first invitation is 7 days old, you can invite the same address again.
